A few of days ago I began experiencing multiple error messages with a failing hard disk on my Windows Home Server (WHS). Dealing with a bad drive can be a pain – particularly with the downtime experienced – but it is for scenarios like this that I like to have duplication turned on for all my WHS folders The first sign of trouble was that my Media Center could not access and files on WHS. I checked Event Viewer and found lots and lots of disk errors like this: The device, DeviceHarddisk2, has a bad block. The Event ID was 7.At this point I was already anticipating that I would probably have to replace the drive. I have 4 WD 2 TB Green drives. I gracefully shutdown the MSS and began testing each drive with Western Digital Data Lifeguard Diag software (on my main desktop).Low and behold, one of the hard drives is reporting an error. I have a new one coming in tomorrow.I was think of installing the new drive, powering up the system, and letting it do its thing (not sure what “its thing” may be though)Is this the correct approach?Any information would be amazing! Thank you!-rudy.
