Prithviraj Chauhan Episode 200 Hq
Prithviraj ChauhanPrithviraj Chauhan was born at Ajaymeru (Ajmer) in 1166 A.D. His father was Someshwar Chauhan and mother Karpuri Devi, a Kalachuri (Chedi) princess, daughter of Achalaraja of Tripuri.Muhammad Ghori attacked India multiple times. First time he was routed in present day Gujarat by Rajputs. Mularaja-II was not even a teen yet and his mother organized the defences of Pattan. Battle was fought at Kayadara near Mount Abu, in 1178 A.D.
And Ghori was resoundingly defeated. After this defeat he never entered India through Gujarat. In first battle of Taraori in 1191 Prithviraj Chauhan's cavalry charged and routed the Ghurid cavalry and captured Ghori. Ghori begged for his life. Prithviraj allowed him to go despite his generals asking him not to do so.Prithviraj Chauhan lived at Taragarh fort which was also known as Ajaymeru after which the town of Ajmer got its name.Following year Ghori came again.
Prithviraj advanced with his army and sent a letter to Ghori. In this letter Ghori was asked to return as he had been defeated the previous year and was spared his life. Ghori replied that he was in India on the orders of his brother, Ghiasuddin, and that he could only retreat after he got a word from his brother.
This letter was sent in the evening and after sending the letter Ghori moved his camp back a few kilometers to feign retreat. On receiving this letter and seeing Muhammad move his camp back Prithviraj assumed that Ghori was not interested in fighting. Ghori also knew that rajputs did not fight in the night and only started fighting after sun had come up.
(This is an ancient Kshatriya practice e.g Mahabharata was also fought mostly in day time). Ghori treacherously attacked in the early morning hours when Prithviraj and his army were sleeping and was able to win this warThe founder of the Gahadwala line was Govindchandra Gahadwala.
He was an astute ruler and ruled from Kannauj. Most of North India, including the university town of Nalanda was a part of his kingdom. He stoutly defended his kingdom from further Muslims incursions.
He instituted a tax for this purpose which was called Turushka Danda (i.e. Tax to fight the Turushkas or Turks). His grandson was Jaichandra Gahadwala (Rathod) who played a tragic role in Indian History. The Story of Prithviraj Chouhan and Mahmud GhoriIn Jaichand's days, a rival Rajput clan had established itself in Delhi (Pithoragarh). The ruler there was Prithviraj Chouhan. Pritiviraj was a romantic, chivalrous and an extremely fearless person. After ceaseless military campaigns, Pritiviraj extended his original kingdom of Sambhar (Shakambara) to Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Eastern Punjab.
He ruled from his twin capitals at Delhi and Ajmer. His fast rise caught the envy of the then powerful ruler Jaichandra Gahadwala and there was a lot of ill-feeling between the two.Prithiviraj's Love for Sanyogita - Jaichandra's DaughterThe story of Prithviraj's bold exploits spread far and wide in the country and he was the center of much discussion in the circle of the nobility. Sanyogita, the daughter of Jaichandra Gahadwala fell secretly in love with Prithiviraj and she started a secret poetic correspondence with him. Her father the haughty Jaichandra got wind of this and he decided to teach his daughter and her upstart lover a lesson. So he arranged a Swayamwara (a ceremony where a bride can select her husband from the assembled princes.
She had the right to garland any prince and she became his queen. This is an ancient Hindu custom among Royalty). Jaichandra invited all the big and small princes of the country to Kannauj for the royal Swayamwara.
But he deliberately ignored Prithiviraj. To add insult to injury, he even made a statue of Prithiviraj and kept him as a dwarpala (doorman). The Elopement of Sanyogita with PrithvirajPrithviraj got to know of this and he confided his plans to his lover. On the said day, Sanyogita walked down the aisle where the royals had assembled and bypassed all of them only to reach the door and garland the statue of Pritiviraj as a doorman. The assemblage was stunned at this brash act of hers. But what stunned them and her father Jaichandra was the next thing that happened.Prithiviraj who was hiding behind the statue, also in the garb of a doorman, whisked Sanyogita away and put her up on his steed to make a fast getaway to his capital at DelhiChouhan-Rathod Warfare Leads to Weakening of both Rajput KingdomsJaichandra and his army gave earnest chase and in the resultant string of battles between the two kingdoms fought between 1189 and 1190, both of them sufferred heavily. While this drama was being enacted, another ruler also named Mahmud who was from Ghori in Afghanistan had grown powerful and had captured Ghazni and subsequently attacked the Ghaznavid Governor of Punjab and defeated him. The kingdom of Mahmud Ghori now stretched up to the domains of Prithiviraj Chouhan. A clash was inevitableThe 1st Battle of Tarain 1191 C.E.

Victory of Prithiviraj ChouhanMahmud Ghori threw the gauntlet by laying siege to the fortress of Bhatinda in East Punjab which was on the frontier of Prithiviraj's domains. Prithviraj's appeal for help from his father-in-law was scornfully rejected by the haughty Jaichandra. But undaunted Prithviraj marched on to Bhatinda and met his enemy at a place called Tarain (also called Taraori) near the ancient town of Thanesar. In face of the persistent Rajput attacks, the battle was won as the Muslim army broke ranks and fled leaving their general Mahmud Ghori as a prisoner in Pritiviraj's hands.Mahmud Ghori was brought in chains to Pithoragarh - Prithviraj's capital and he begged his victor for mercy and release. Prithviraj's ministers advised against pardoning the aggressor. But the chivalrous and valiant Prithviraj thought otherwise and respectfully released the vanquished Ghori. The 2nd Battle of Tarain 1192 C.E.
Defeat of Prithiviraj ChouhanThe very next year Prithiviraj's gesture was repaid by Ghori who re-attacked Prithiviraj with a stronger army and guilfully defeated him by attacking the Rajput army before daybreak. (The Hindus incidentally followed a hoary practice of battling only from sunrise up to sunset. Before Sunrise and after Sunset there was to be no fighting- as per a time honoured battle code). The defeated Prithiviraj was pursued up to his capital and in chains he was taken as a captive to Ghor in Afghanistan. The Blinding of PrithvirajThe story of Prithiviraj does not end here. As a prisoner in Ghor he was presented before Mahmud, where he looked Ghori straight into the eyeGhori ordered him to lower his eyes, whereupon a defiant Prithiviraj scornfully told him how he had treated Ghori as a prisoner and said that the eyelids of a Rajputs eyes are lowered only in death. On hearing this, Ghori flew into a rage and ordered that Prithviraj's eyes be burnt with red hot iron rodsThis heinous deed being done, Prithiviraj was regularly brought to the court to be taunted by Ghori and his courtiers.
In those days Prithiviraj was joined by his former biographer Chand Bardai, who had composed a ballad-biography on Pritiviraj in the name of Prithviraj Raso (Songs of Prithviraj). Chand Bardai told Prithiviraj, that he should avenge Ghori's betrayal and daily insults. The Blind Prithviraj Avenges the Injustice done to himThe two got an opportunity when Ghori announced a game of Archery. On the advice of Chand Bardai, Prithviraj, who was then at court said he would also like to participate. On hearing his suggestion, the courtiers guffawed at him and he was taunted by Ghori as to how he could participate when he could not see. Whereupon, Prithiviraj told Mahmud Ghori to order him to shoot, and he would reach his target.Ghori became suspicious and asked Prithviraj why he wanted Ghori himself to order and not anyone else. On behlaf of Prithiviraj, Chand Bardai told Ghori that he as a king would not accept orders from anyone other than a king.
His ego satisfied, Mahmud Ghori agreed. On the said day, Ghori sitting in his royal enclosure had Prithiviraj brought to the ground and had him unchained for the event. On Ghori's ordering Prithviraj to shoot, we are told Prithiviraj turned in the direction from where he heard Ghori speak and struck Ghori dead with his arrow. This event is described by Chand Bardai in the couplet, 'Dus kadam aggey, bees kadam daey, baitha hai Sultan. Ab mat chuko Chouhan, chala do apna baan.' (Ten feet ahead of you and twenty feet to your right, is seated the Sultan, do not now miss him Chouhan, release your baan - arrow). Thus ended the story of the brave but unrealistic Prithviraj Chouhan - the last Hindu ruler of Delhi. Delhi was to remain under Muslim rule for the next 700 years till 1857 and under British rule till 1947. Those few Hindus who came close to liberating Delhi during the seven centuries of Muslim rule were Rana Sanga in 1527, Raja (Hemu) Vikramaditya in around 1565 (2nd battle of Panipat), and Shrimant Vishwas Rao who was the Peshwa's son and was co-commander of the Maratha forces in the 3rd battle of Panipat in 1761.
Metaphorically speaking, the next Hindu ruler to actually preside over Delhi was to be Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of Independent India (and Jawarharlal Nehru - who was the President's first Minister). Said.I, being a follower of prithviraj chauhan and his thoughts, want to say to all readers here that prithviraj wasn't killed by mohummad ghauri.
Even ghauri was killed by Maharaj Prithviraj Chauhan. If I say about his death as per chand bardai's prithviraj raso, after killing ghauri by shooting an arrow racing across throat, prithvi and chand stabbed each other because they didn't want to die by ghauri's courtiers. PLEASE don't say ever that king prithviraj chauhan was killed by ghauri. PRITHVI KILLED FUCKER GHAURI. THAT'S THE FACT.
SANYOGITA BECAME 'SATI' AFTER SHE CAME TO KNOW ABOUT PRITHVI'S DEATH. JAI JAI PRITHVIRAJ CHAUHAN!!!!
Rishi Sharmasaid.I do respect Prithviraj Chauhan as an individual for his bravery and feild craft but as a ruler I find him to be foolish. Dont mind guys as I too am a staunch follower of Prithvi's ideologies. It was just because of his egoistic pleasures to be regarded as a brave and large hearted king that he left a crook like Ghouri and sacrificed entire Hindu Community to the hands of Mughalsfor next 700 years. Today, if we try and look back to know the true and actual Hindustani/Bharat's culture, we will not find it anywhere as the same got overwhelmed and destroyed by Mughal culture over these 700 years.I still say that he was a awesome warrior but a irresponsible ruler.

When he could have killed Ghauri, he did not - out of some misplaced valor. That lead to another encounter and his defeat. In the process, Hindus were enslaved by Muslims for SEVEN HUNDRED YEARS!!!
Exactly where is the valor in that? Prithvi Raj Chauhan was a king and had a responsibility to his people. He should have defended them by killing Ghauri when he could.
My big fear is that the modern Indian state is doing the same with Pakistan. We have beaten them so many times, only to let them off. They have to beat us ONCE, and we are gone for good.
You know its true. Said.Dear citizens of India (irrespective of religion, caste, colour creed)A brief note on Prithvi Raj Chauhan:Prithviraj Chauhan was the last Hindu king to sit upon the throne of Delhi. Itwas a known fact that Prithviraj was called as a tiger of Delhi.Delhi continued to be under the control of muslim rulers untill the Britishperiod.Prithvi Raj rather sought his death himself than being killed by Ghori's army. Such was the life of this great warrior andsaviour of his subjects.Even today Afghans vent their anger on Prithviraj's Grave by stabbing on itthrough a rope & then pay accolades to their defeated king Ghori.
Said. When they reached one spot in Ghazni they saw that all the locals were jumping, kicking and spitting on a grave, infact to see that grave one had to jump on itfrom the top, in such a manner that you fall directly on the gave disgracingit, not just that a few meters ahead was another tomb were the people wereoffering flowers and worshiping it. The Indian did not understand what wasgoing on and asked an explanation, but the Afghans were reluctant to tellanything as they knew that he was Indian, but when he forced them, they toldhim that, The grave they were spitting and kicking, is the gave of PrithvirajChauhan an India king from Delhi.
They were spitting on the grave because theywere angry with him as he killed Afghan's King Mohammad Ghori 900 years ago.The inscription on Prithviraj chauhan tomb reads:'Here lies the Kafer king of DelhiThe historians were shocked at this. Friends can you believe that our belovedhero Prithviraj Chauhan who gave his life to protect our country, his grave isin Ghazni and is disrespected till today.
These are not the only people to havewitnessed a thing like this, there was another team form India who visited thesame site in Afghanistan and confirmed the news.We must all do something about it. If we all get together we can bring pressureon the government to bring back the grave of our national hero. How can weIndians tolerate this?Somehow the Present Government of India is not interested in bringing backPrithviraj Chauhan grave, they don't consider it to be important & this news is not been given the required publicity.Lets not forget that when another great King of India Shivaji Maharaj hadkilled Abzalkhan (a moughal), he respected his remains and even built amemorial in his fort to honor his dead body. Even Prithviraj use to honor theenemies remains. Indian Kings like Prithviraj Chauhan, Shivaji Maharaj, RanaPratab were benevolent & noble in thoughts and action.Friends if we want we can easily spread this information, say by telling ourfriends, cousins etc and so on. They in turn can do the same.In no time we will be a huge group, and can do something constructive about it.The petition can initially start online, and than we can come together in therespective city we are living in, just like the reservation opposition bydoctors. We will try our best to bring back the remains of our national hero, and besuccessful in our endeavor. We request our fellow citizens to pass this mail forth to each and everyone andrequest Indian Govt to take up this issue forth with the Govt ofAfghanistan. Either the remains should come back or treated with respect.I hope and expect every Indian will take sometime off his/her valuable time topass this on and put this little (even if it is like a drop in the ocean) effortto save the grave of our martyr.please forward this mail to ur friends.

Anonymoussaid.Prithviraj Chauhan's story is indeed soul-stirring.
Brings tears to my eyes everytime I think of his compassion and the wretch Muhammad Ghori's treachery and ungratefulness. It is indeed very sad that he used compassion to spare Muhammad Ghouri who did not deserve even an iota of it.It is a great trait of Rajputs to spare the lives on even enemies when they beg for it.
This produces gratefulness in Hindu kings who generally remain loyal to the person sparing their lives till they breathe their last.Unfortunately Muhammad Ghori and his likes are barbarians who have no concept of kindness, compassion and loyalty. They have a history of dacoity, cruelty and disloyalty that does not deserve the compassion shown by Prithviraj. They kill their own father, brothers and other kin.The wrong application of Prithviraj's kindness and nobility resulted in India paying a very heavy price. Compare this with Gandhiji insisting at the time of partition that Muslims may remain in India if they choose to.
Rajaji and Vallabhai Patel were very clear that Muslims should go to Pakistan and the Hindus there should come back to India since the very idea of partition is to create a separate state for Muslims. Gandhiji prevailed and the consequences were disastrous.
Hindus in Pakistan and Bangladesh have virtually been wiped out but the Muslims here thrive and are a favored lot with our politicians. Gandhiji's apparent kindness is really not kindness at all. This is why in matters of such importance we should use the head and not the heart in deciding things. But we may not have been able to avoid Muslim invasion even otherwise as there was a lot of betrayal among Hindus.
The wretches joined hands with the invaders to betray their own motherland. So many such cases have been there. It is disgusting to learn that present day Afghans desecrate the grave of such a brave, kind and noble king as Prithviraj who spared the life of their own hero Muhammad Ghori. Such culture-less savages they are.We indeed must act and put pressure on the Govt. Of India to bring back his grave and erect a grand monument in his honor. Will Hindus act? Mohit chauhansaid.I m really inspired.jai jai prithviraj chauhan.sach me bahut kuch sikhne ko mila mujhe.pehli bat to ye ki kabhi zindagi me himmat na haro.i m proud to be rajput.13 sal ki age me shabd bhedi vidya sikh li thi unhone.aur gauri ko 17 bar maf kiya.such a kind king.ab fir se jarurat h ek aur prithviraj ki jo azad kare is desh ko in corrupt politicians se.

BUT A SU KNOW WE ARE PROUD TO BE INDIANS IF THOSE PEOPLE ARE DOING THIS ACT LET THEM DO HAVE A BIG HEART OF LION AS PRITHVI RAJ HAD, SHOW THEM U ARE INDIAN AND INDIAN MEAN TO GIVE THEM AND LEAVE THEM AS BEGGERS COZ THEY WERE LIKE THIS BEGGERS.PLS TRY TO UNDERSTAND WHAT PRITHVI RAJ TRIED BY LOOSING HIS ALL LIFE,LOVE(SANYOGITA)FREINDS, KINDOM BUT KEPT HIS PRIDE LIKE A LION LIKE A BRAVEHEART SO BE IT GUYS AND CHEERS JAI JAI PRITHVI RAJ. Said.Prithviraj Chauhan was indeed a great person but he didn't killed Mohammed Ghori( Mohammed-Bin-Sam ). Mohammad Ghori was killed in 1206 A.D. By a person from Khokhar Tribe( A tribe originally from Afghanistan which migrated to India due to Mohammad Ghori's attack ) while he was alone perhaps reading Namaz.
Prithvi Raj showed Great mercy to Mohammed Ghori and even released him with many gifts after Tarain's 1st battle in 1191 A.D.In Tarain's 2nd Battle in 1192 A.D. He was defeated my Mohammed Ghori captured Prithviraj and took him to Afghanistan and killed him there. It is also said that he cut him in to pieces to show his cruelty and blah blah. There are some other facts which proves that claim from Prithviraj Raso is wrong:. If Prithviraj killed Mohammed Ghori after his defeat and imprisonment in Tarain's 2nd battle in 1192 then HOW can Battle of CHANDAWAR takes place between Jaychand and Mohammed Ghori in which Mohammed Ghori defeated Jaychand who had invited him to attack Prithviraj.Prithviraj Chauhan was a great person but from my opinion there were much better rulers in past. According to me he was not visionary and a little hot headed. One of the greatest ruler of Indian history was Chandragupta Maurya ( most of the credit goes to Chanakya:-) ).
He expanded his emires and conquered back the territories conqured by Alexander the Great. Alexander's Commander Seleucus after seeing the power of Chandragupta's Army forgot the plan of taking back lost territories and proposed a treaty which changed in to Marriage alliance in which Chandragupta married with Seleucus's daughter Helena ' Our 1st Videshi Bahu:p'. Anonymoussaid.guys,i am new here but i am familiar with our great warriors.and it is truely considerable that rajput warriors were very brave.but the main cause of defeat of them that many of rajput kings had jealous to them also.for example rana pratap fought for mewar and mansingh who was also a rajput,a traitor fought against maharana on behalf of akbar.and second thing we all know about the past rajput warriors and also present soldiers who are serving for bharat, but the youth is only believes in street fighting this the truth of today. Prithviraj Chauhan Movie
Said. The last hindu ruler have fought throught his life but he has not get the helping hand from other rajput ruler to protect india from muslim invaders due to which he has lost & all hindus from every community have suffered from muslim, but he was the hero & wil remain same, he was a brave & kind hearted person & a true rajput & he also shows when he has forgiven ghouri in first battle. But i think indian government has to think something on this issue that still the remains of prithviraj is in afghanistan & after 63 years of independence still govt has done nothing to bring remains of our last hindu ruler & his name has been vanished from history but thanks to some people those who worked to give status to the history of prithviraj.
I salute this rajput & always love to hear something about him. Anoop chauhan ( Ghaziabad) village is in Khair ( Aligarh). Anonymoussaid.we all care for and cherish history, and in the case of Prithvi Raj Chauhan, as justice to history it must be noted and acknowledged that 'Rajput' as a race did not exist - it was only 'KSHATRIYAS'and Gujarat was never ruled by Rajputs but The Gujar Kshatriyas after which it got its name GujarDesh. So as justice to history before the Mughal Era may we only use Kshatriya' (as the word that describes and prevelent at that time )- the great Hindu Rulers of India which includes 'raja Prithvi Raj Chauhan'- a grat Kshatriya warrior. Said. The disrespect the afghanis show towards him only proves that his presence makes them realize again and again that someone had the guts to kill their king in their own land inspite of being blind. Thats called bravery and they know they can never match him.So all that is left for them to do is to abuse him.THEY BETTER KNOW THAT NO AMOUNT OF DISRESPECT CAN EVER CHANGE THE FACT THAT HE WAS THE GREATEST AND THEY COULD NOT DEFEAT HIMThere is an article which says that Prithvi's grave was dug and brought back to India by Sher Singh Rana recently.
How true is this? Pls validate and if brought back where is it? Anonymoussaid.I liked the bravery of Prithivi Raj Chauchan. But he was a foolish King. He did not understand and respected the sacrifice of his own soldier who died in first battle with Ghori and left Ghori to go back.
Thinks about those poor soldiers died in fighting for him in first war against Ghori and this foolish king for flase boosting of his own glory pardoned MD. This story also shows our hollow glory in which we insult the sacrifice poor people like peasants, lower caste, dalits and( in case of prithivi raj chauhan even sacrifice of his own soldiers of his own caste) but show great respect to a foriegner like Ghori to go back. He was a good soldier and but a very bad and vision less general. I do not fully believe he killed Ghori by arrow.
Foolish person like him who don't respect the sacrifice of his own soldier deserve to be blinded by nomad person like MD. ABSTRACTAll Standard reference books agree that the name 'Hindu Kush' of the mountain range in Eastern Afganistan means ' Hindu Slaughter' or ' Hindu Killer'. History also reveals that until 1000 A.D.
The area of Hindu Kush was a full part of Hindu cradle. More likely, the mountain range was deliberately named as 'Hindu Slaughter' by the Moslem conquerors, as a lesson to the future generations of Indians. However Indians in general, and Hindus in particular are completely oblivious to this tragic genocide. This article also looks into the reasons behind this ignorance.21 References - (Mainly Encyclopedia Britannica & other reference books, National Geographic Magazines and standard history books). INTRODUCTIONThe Hindu Kush is a mountain system nearly 1000 miles long and 200 miles wide, running northeast to southwest, and dividing the Amu Darya River Valley and Indus River Valley. It stretches from the Pamir Plateau near Gilgit, to Iran.
The Hindu Kush ranges mainly run thru Afganistan and Pakistan. It has over two dozen summits of more than 23,000 ft in height. Below the snowy peaks the mountains of Hindu Kush appear bare, stony and poor in vegetation.
Historically, the passes across the Hindu Kush have been of great military significance, providing access to the northern plains of India. The Khyber Pass constitutes an important strategic gateway and offers a comparatively easy route to the plains of Punjab. Most foreign invaders, starting from Alexander the Great in 327 BC, to Timur Lane in 1398 AD, and from Mahmud of Ghazni, in 1001 AD, to Nader Shah in 1739 AD attacked Hindustan via the Khyber Pass and other passes in the Hindu Kush (1,2,3). The Greek chroniclers of Alexander the Great called Hindu Kush as Parapamisos or Paropanisos (4). The Hindu name of the Hindu Kush mountains was 'Paariyaatra Parvat'(5).
EARLY HISTORY OF HINDU KUSH REGION (UP TO 1000 AD)History of Hindu Kush and Punjab shows that two major kingdoms of Gandhaar & Vaahic Pradesh (Balkh of Bactria) had their borders extending far beyond the Hindu Kush. Legend has it that the kingdom of Gandhaar was established by Taksha, grandson of Bharat of Ayodhya (6). Gandhaar's borders extended from Takshashila to Tashkent (corruption of 'Taksha Khand') in the present day Uzbekistan. In the later period, Mahabharat relates Gaandhaari as a princess of Gandhaar and her brother, Shakuni as a prince and later as Gandhaar's ruler. In the well documented history, Emperor Chandragupt Maurya took charge of Vaahic Pradesh around 325 BC and then took over Magadh.
Emperor Ashok's stone tablets with inscriptions in Greek and Aramaic are still found at Qandahar (corruption of Gandhaar?) and Laghman in eastern Afganistan(3). One such stone tablet, is shown in the PBS TV series 'Legacy with Mark Woods' in episode 3 titled 'India: The Spiritual Empire'.
After the fall of Mauryan empire, Gandhaar was ruled by Greeks. However some of these Greek rulers had converted to Buddhism, such as Menander, known to Indian historians as Milinda, while some other Greeks became followers of Vishnav sects (Hinduism)(7). Recent excavations in Bactria have revealed a golden hoard which has among other things a figurine of a Greek goddess with a Hindu mark on its forehead (Bindi) showing the confluence of Hindu-Greek art (8). Later Shaka and KushaaN ruled Gandhaar and Vaahic Pradesh. KushaaN emperor Kanishka's empire stretched from Mathura to the Aral Sea (beyond the present day Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Krygzystan)(9).Kanishaka was a Buddhist and under KushaaN influence Buddhism flourished in Gandhaar. Two giant sandstone Buddhas carved into the cliffs of Bamian (west of Kabul) date from the Kushan period. The larger Buddha (although defaced in later centuries by Moslem invaders) is about 175 ft tall (10,11).
The Kushan empire declined by 450 AD. The Chinese traveller Hsuan-Tsang (Xuan-zang) travelled thru the region in 7 th century AD and visited many Buddhist religious centers (3) including Hadda, Ghazni, Qonduz, Bamian (3,10,11), Shotorak and Bagram. From the 5 th thru 9 th cenury AD Persian Sasanians and Hepthalites ruled Gandhaar.
During their rule Gandhaar region was again influenced by Hinduism. The Hindu kings (Shahiya) were concentrated in the Kabul and Ghazni areas. The last Hindu Shahiya king of Kabul, Bhimapal was killed in 1026 AD. The heroic efforts of the Hindu Shahiya Kings to defend the northwestern gates of India against the invaders are described by even al-Biruni, the court historian of Mahmud of Ghazni (12).
Some excavated sites of the period include a major Hindu Shahiya temple north of Kabul and a chapel that contains both Buddhist and Hindu images, indicating that there was a mingling of two religions (3).Islamic invasions on Afganistan started in 642 AD, but over the next several centuries their effect was marginal and lasted only a short time after each raid. Cities surrendered only to rise in revolt and the hastily converted returned to their old religion (Hinduism or Buddhism) once the Moslem armies had passed (3). Now Afganistan is a Moslem country.
Logically, this means either one or more of the following must have happened:a) original residents of Hindu Kush converted to Islam, orb) they were slaughtered and the conquerors took over, orc) they were driven out.Encyclopedia Britannica (3) already informs us above about the resistance to conversion and frequent revolt against to the Moslem conqueror's rule from 8 th thru 11 th Century AD. The name 'Hindu Kush' itself tells us about the fate of the original residents of Gandhaar and Vaahic Pradesh during the later period of Moslem conquests, because HINDU KUSH in Persian MEANS HINDU SLAUGHTER (13) (as per Koenraad Elst in his book 'Ayodhya and After').
Let us look into what other standard references say about Hindu Kush.Persian-English dictionary (14) indicates that the word 'Kush' is derived from the verb Kushtar - to slaughter or carnage. Kush is probably also related to the verb Koshtan meaning to kill. In Urdu, the word Khud-kushi means act of killing oneself (khud - self, Kushi- act of killing).
Encyclopedia Americana comments on the Hindu Kush as follows: The name Hindu Kush means literally 'Kills the Hindu', a reminder of the days when (Hindu) SLAVES from Indian subcontinent died in harsh Afgan mountains while being transported to Moslem courts of Central Asia (15). The National Geographic Article 'West of Khyber Pass' informs that 'Generations of raiders brought captive Hindus past these peaks of perpetual snow.
Such bitter journeys gave the range its name Hindu Kush - 'Killer of Hindus'(10). The World Book Encyclopedia informs that the name Kush,.
Means Death.(16). While Encyclopedia Britannica says 'The name Hindu Kush first appears in 1333 AD in the writings of Ibn Battutah, the medieval Berber traveller, who said the name meant 'Hindu Killer', a meaning still given by Afgan mountain dwellers who are traditional enemies of Indian plainsmen (i.e. However, later the Encyclopedia Britannica gives a negationist twist by adding that 'more likely the name is a corruption of Hindu-Koh meaning Hindu mountains'. This is unlikely, since the term Koh is used in its proper, uncorrupted form for the western portion of Hindu Kush, viz. Koh-i-Baba, for the region Swat Kohistan, and in the names of the three peaks of this range, viz. Koh-i-Langer, Koh-i-Bandakor, and Koh-i-Mondi.
Thus to say that corruption of term Koh to Kush occurred only in case of Hindu Kush is merely an effort to fit in a deviant observation to a theory already proposed. In science, a theory is rejected if it does not agree with the observations, and not the other way around. Hence the latter negationist statement in the Encyclopedia Britannica must be rejected.IT IS SIGNIFICANT THAT ONE OF THE FEW PLACE NAMES ON EARTH THAT REMINDS US NOT OF THE VICTORY OF THE WINNERS BUT RATHER THE SLAUGHTER OF THE LOSERS, CONCERNS A GENOCIDE OF HINDUS BY THE MOSLEMS (13).Unlike the Jewish holocaust, the exact toll of the Hindu genocide suggested by the name Hindu Kush is not available.
However the number is easily likely to be in millions. Few known historical figures can be used to justify this estimate.
Encyclopedia Britannica informs that in December 1398 AD, Timur Lane ordered the execution of at least 50,000 captives before the battle for Delhi,. And after the battle those inhabitants (of Delhi) not killed were removed (as slaves) (17), while other reference says that the number of captives butchered by Timur Lane's army was about 100,000 (18). Later on Encyclopedia Britannica mentions that the (secular?) Mughal emperor Akbar 'ordered the massacre of about 30,000 (captured) Rajput Hindus on February 24, 1568 AD, after the battle for Chitod' (19). Another reference indicates that this massacre of 30,000 Hindu peasants at Chitod is recorded by Abul Fazl, Akbar's court historian himself (20). These two 'one day' massacres are sufficient to provide a reference point for estimating the scale of Hindu genocide.
The Afgan historian Khondamir records that during one of the many repeated invasions on the city of Herat in western Afganistan, 1,500,000 residents perished (11).Since some of the Moslem conquerors took Indian plainsmen as slaves, a question comes: whatever happened to this slave population? The startling answer comes from New York Times (May-June 1993 issues).
The Gypsies are wandering peoples in Europe. They have been persecuted in almost every country. Nazis killed 300,000 gypsies in the gas chambers. These Gypsies have been wandering around Central Asia and Europe since around the 12 th Century AD.
Until now their country of origin could not be identified. Also their Language has had very little in common with the other European languages. Recent studies however show that their language is similar to Punjabi and to a lesser degree to Sanskrit. Thus the Gypsies most likely originated from the greater Punjab. The time frame of Gypsy wanderings also coincides early Islamic conquests hence most likely their ancestors were driven out of their homes in Punjab and taken as slaves over the Hindu Kush. The theory of Gypsie origins in India was first proposed over two centuries ago. It is only recently theta linguistic and other proofs have been verified. Even the Gypsie leadership now accepts India as the country of their origin. Thus it is evident that the mountain range was named as Hindu Kush as a reminder to the future Hindu generations of the slaughter and slavery of Hindus during the Moslem conquests.
If the name Hindu Kush relates such a horrible genocide of Hindus, why are Hindus ignorant about it? And why the Government of India does not teach them about Hindu Kush? The history and geography curriculums in Indian Schools barely even mention Hindu Kush. The horrors of the Jewish holocaust are taught not only in schools in Israel and USA, but also in Germany.
Because both Germany and Israel consider the Jewish holocaust a 'dark chapter' in the history. The Indian Government instead of giving details of this 'dark chapter' in Indian history is busy in whitewash of Moslem atrocities and the Hindu holocaust. In 1982, the National Council of Educational Research and Training issued a directive for the rewriting of school texts. Among other things it stipulated that: ' Characterization of the medieval period as a time of conflict between Hindus and Moslems is forbidden'. Thus denial of history or Negationism has become India's official ' educational' policy (21).Often the official governmental historians brush aside questions such as those that Hindu Kush raises. They argue that the British version is the product of their 'divide and rule' policy' hence their version is not necessarily true.
However it must be remembered that the earliest reference of the name Hindu Kush and its literal meaning 'Hindu Killer' comes from Ibn Battutah in 1333 AD, and at that time British were nowhere on the Indian scene. Secondly, if the name indeed was a misnomer then the Afgans should have protested against such a barbaric name and the last 660 plus years should have been adequate for a change of name to a more 'civil' name. There has been no effort for such a change of name by the Afgans. On the contrary, when the Islamic fundamentalist regime of the Mujahadeens came to power in 1992, tens of thousands of Hindus and Sikhs from Kabul, became refugees, and had to pay steep ransom to enter into Pakistan without a visa.In the last 46 years the Indian Government also has not even once demanded that the Afgan Government change such an insulting and barbaric name. But in July 1993, the Government of India asked the visiting Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra to change its name because the word Jerusalem in its name is offensive to Moslem Fundamentalists.
It is evident that Hindus from ancient India's (Hindustan's) border states such as Gandhaar and Vaahic Pradesh were massacred or taken as slaves by the Moslem invaders who named the region as Hindu Kush (or Hindu Slaughter,or Hindu Killer) to teach a lesson to the future Hindu generations of India. Unfortunately Hindus are not aware of this tragic history. The Indian government does not want the true history of Hindu Moslem conflicts during the medieval ages to be taught in schools. This policy of negationism is the cause behind the ignorance of Hindus about the Hindu Kush and the Hindu genocide. COMMENTS & FUTURE WORKAlthough in this article Hindu Kush has been referred to as Hindu slaughter, it is quite possible that it was really a Hindu and Buddhist slaughter. Since prior to Moslem invasions influence of Buddhism in Gandhaar and Vaahic Pradesh was considerable. Also as the huge 175 ft stone Buddhas of Bamian show, Buddhists were idol worshipers par excellence.
Hence for Moslem invaders the Buddhists idol worshipers were equally deserving of punishment. It is also likely that Buddhism was considered an integral part of the Hindu pantheon and hence was not identified separately. This article barely scratches the surface of the Hindu genocide, the true depth of which is as yet unknown.
Readers are encouraged to find out the truth for themselves. Only when many readers search for the truth, the real magnitude of the Hindu genocide will be discovered.
