DescriptionThe events of this game occur shortly after the ones described in the of the series. Once again, the player takes the role of Raidou Kuzunoha the 14th, the youngest in the long line of devil summoners. It is the Taishou period (the 1920-ies) in Japan, and once again the Capital City is threatened by supernatunal forces. Raidou works undercover at the Narumi Detective Agency, solving cases with mysterious backgrounds. It all begins when a young woman enters the office and asks the detective to find a missing man.The game is part of the larger series dedicated to generations of, which, in its turn, is a part of the meta-series.

As in the first Raidou Kuzunoha game, the core gameplay is action-oriented. Raidou attacks enemies with swords or guns; but like before, he will need help from his demonic allies to defeat the foes.

Raidou is able to summon two (as opposed to one in the first game) demons to help him in battles. The main gameplay difference is that instead of simply weakening enemies to capture them, as it was the case in the first game, now Raidou has to talk to hostile demons and persuade them to join his party, thus returning to the long-running Megaten tradition of demon negotiations as integral part of gameplay.

Devil Summoner has more focus on doing detective work, with the Raidou games being set in the 1920'sThe Raidou games are unique in that they are real time. I'd say that they're more flawed than the other PS2 era games, which leads to them being more overlooked. I enjoyed both of them, but they do have issues that you may or may not be able get past.Raidou 1 was one of Atlus' earlier 3D action games, and it shows. Raidou's moveset is very limited and stiff, and battle tactics still has a lot of focus on using demons which you control through menus.

It essentially feels like a regular SMT game, but in real time. Battles can get fairly repetitive and you have random encounters in every area, including towns, which can get tedious with the amount of backtracking required.

The story is fairly decent though, and it has one of the best final dungeons and endgames of any SMT.Raidou 2 improves the combat a lot and removes random encounters in towns, but it feels like a downgrade in a few other areas. There's a lot of content recycled from the first game, including quite a lot of areas, and it even recycles it's own content quite a bit. It has some decent characters, but the overall plot is weaker too. There is a lot more content than in the first game though, with a good amount of side quests to do.
