Knoppix Boot Only Iso File
Short Description of Problem: Using KNOPPIXV7.6.1DVD-2016-01-16-EN.iso, I tried installing Knoppix as a liveUSB and it doesn't appear to work. Files aren't copied and USB won't boot.Expected Behavior:Install Knoppix, reboot, boot into Knoppix LiveUSB.Actual Behavior:When installing Knoppix as LiveUSB, 'enterperise.cfg' pops up asking me to manually configure my bootloader.
Knoppix Boot Only Iso File Player
I can't manually copy the ISO over either because the drive is formatted as FAT.Steps to Reproduce:Wipe USB stick as FAT or exFAT (tried both) using Disk Utility. Download latest Knoppix:. Try installing via Mac Linux USB Loader. See enterprise.cfg pop up after installation.
Note that no files appear to be copied to the USB stick. Reboot, hold option/alt, try booting, notice failure.
I don't mind filling out the parameters, but what I'm saying is that the program doesn't detect that FAT32 doesn't support 4GB+ files, so it gives the appearance that the installation was successful, but stick doesn't contain the Knoppix ISO. The program thus fails to throw a warning and the user is unaware of the failure, rebooting with the USB stick in, thinking it's working and then notices there is no OS to load.My initial screenshot shows there is no boot.iso or KNOPPIXV7.6.1DVD-2016-01-16-EN.iso. Whether you support Knoppix or not, I believe this error detection should be included instead of stating 'Success'.As for the second screenshot, I was completely incorrect in stating that it skips the menu. Continuing your side note, I completely agree re: Knoppix size. I saw old screenshots of me performing data recovery with Knoppix 5.1.1 which was a 2007 distro at 700MB and it worked just great. No longer having a CD-ROM drive of course leads me to using USB sticks. Using a 2014 Mac, I assumed I needed a recent distro and it appears Knoppix stopped with CD-sized ISOs in 2013 and now only have 4GB ISOs available in 2015 and 2016.(last CD ISOs)(latest ISOs)I ended up using Ubuntu 16.04 just fine.
And if you're curious, it wasn't a important data recovery, just an old external hard drive that was ext3 and I wanted to transfer to a NTFS hard drive that I use on my Mac. I would love to know what the correct parameters to fill in for the enterprise config are for Knoppix.
I need to make bootable cd with this thing called knoppix on it. Knoppix is a linux tool that can live on a bootable CD. I need it to help with a hosed windows system. I have never made a bootable cd before. The tools that I have are Easy CD Creator and burnatonce. I downloaded a whopping 689 MB ISO file from the knoppix site. My drive is an NEC DVD-RW.Has anyone ever made a knoppix disk or understand what is needed to make an ISO file bootable? Both Easy CD Creator and burnatonce have settings to make bootable disks, but it seems like you need a some kind of boot image file (like a.bin or something).
Is that part of the ISO file? I really don't understand how these work.
Thanks in advance! What is KNOPPIX®?KNOPPIX is a bootable CD with a collection of GNU/Linux software, automatic hardware detection, and support for many graphics cards, sound cards, SCSI and USB devices and other peripherals.
KNOPPIX can be used as a Linux demo, educational CD, rescue system, or adapted and used as a platform for commercial software product demos. It is not necessary to install anything on a hard disk. Due to on-the-fly decompression, the CD can have up to 2 GB of executable software installed on it.How is KNOPPIX started? To start the CD, set up the BIOS of your computer to boot off the CD, put the CD in the drive, and power up the computer.
If your computer doesn't support this option, you have to use a boot disk. You can create this disk from the image in KNOPPIX/boot.img on the CD.You can either download it and burn it to a Cd orYou can order the newest beta versions of the KNOPPIX-CD from various, independent places, and have them sent to you by mail. PeteLong: After visiting the Roxio site, I am beginning to think that my bundled version of Easy CD Creator (5.3.3.10) does not support burning ISO.Thanks to you and to LucF.
I suspected it was a bootable file, but the first two that I tried failed. I think my drive was being flaky. Just after I posted my question, my third burn finished (with burnatonce). I only burned the iso file.
When I tried to boot from it, it worked! Well, sort of. There were a lot of errors as it start ed up. Maybe I was supposed to also burn those other text files on the disk (called knoppix-cheatcodes.txt and packages.txt). I will try another burn with those.Aslo, I am burning on CD-RW, that doesn't matter, right?
My oldest son burned one for me. I think you just download everything on the download site and then burn it to a CD andthen adjust you Bios so to look at the Cd rom first andjust put the Cd as you ar rebooting and it just recongizes i9t and starts it up. At least that is the way mind works.Fred Langa called it the perfect rescue disk if all elese fails, it has the capatility of burning files to a Cd. I have done that. You ust to be able to buy the CD already to go for $2.99 butnow I guess they are around $5 or $6 bucks. LRI41, fyi from all you need to do is download one file, nothing more, nothing less, all you need is the ISO file as all is included within the ISO. Including the ability to boot from it.
It's a great tool and with a bit looking around the internet, you can certainly turn it into 'the perfect rescue disk if all elese fails' yes, Fred Langa (don't know who he is.) is right about that. I just love it, I made one myself which includes F-prot antivirus, full support to read and write to NTFS harddisks etc. This is the best tool I've been able to find at the moment.Maybe that BootPE thingy, I haven't tried it yet might be able to do the same.If you allready knew all this, please ignore this posting:)LucF. I don't really need a boot floppy, but it would be nice to have. Maybe the boot floppy image comes on the disk that you buy?Still having a little trouble. The disks burned with Easy CD don't seem to be bootable. I am burning another now with burnatonce.
Knoppix Boot Only Iso File Download
I select the image to burn. Then check 'make bootable' under iso settings. There is a button for the boot image and by default it lists.bin types but not.iso types. If I select all file types I can see the knoppix file and select it. After compiling, it says I have 1390MB-it's trying to write the iso twice.
Maybe I don't select a file in the first part, just use the bootable iso setting to select it.LucF: If this new one boots, can I give you an example of the errors? (if there are any). I am definitely hoping to use this as a rescure disk for a different computer. Gosh, sorry guys, I'm still not getting it. Good thing I am using a CD-RW. Can it be that maybe my disk or drive is flaky? I am doing a full erase before trying again.Since I already have an iso file or image, I just need to write that image to disk and forget about setting boot options and iso settings, right?
How To Boot Iso File
I can sort of follow your instructions, LucF, except they seem to be slightly different for ecdc 5.Maybe the file I downloaded is corrupt. I downloaded it with BitTorrent since the other way would have taken 30 hours of more. I have tried burning 7 or 8 times with two brand new cdrws. None of the easy cd settings seem to make it work. The one time I did get a cd to boot was with burnatonce. Since it started with errors I thought there was something wrong with the way I recorded.

So I erased it. I will try again.
